my visor

Boaz, my beloved gift-giving brother, got me a blue Visor Deluxe last August (2000). I fell in love, and am never going back. Here's what I have on and around it:

Hardware
Targus Stowaway Portable Keyboard by Think Outside  - folds up into something slightly larger than the visor itself. Full sized keys. Another gift from Santa... errr... Boaz.
Matchbook Drive - a Compact flash adapter. I use a 32 MB Sandisk CF card to expand my visor's memory.
Minstrel S wireless modem by Novatel - supposed to get me online, but Cellcom, the wireless provider in Israel will not connect me since the modem has not been approved by the Israeli Ministry of Communication, unlike the similar Novatel Minstrel V modem for the Palm V. Grrrr!
Handspring Power Accessory Kit - from I.C.U. Accessories - recharges the visor deluxe's batteries while in the visor.

Software

Readers:
CSpotRun - freeware, open source doc reader from Bill Clagett. I use the modified version from Kopsis and am able to read directly from my CF card.
TomeRaider from Scribble. Reads proprietary TomeRaider books and regular Docs. Commercial - $20
TealDoc from TealPoint Software. Shareware, $16.95
Documents To Go from Dataviz. Read and edit MS word and Excel files on your palm. Commercial $49.95
iSilo from DC and Co. Shareware $12.50. I have my Plumb's Veterinary Drug Handbook, (commercial, $50) in iSilo format. This (Plumb) is the best palm-purchase I have ever made.  iSilo works with iSilo Web (freeware) which lets you download web pages to your palm. I like it better than Avantgo (freeware) which took up too much room.
Acrobat Reader from Adobe - lets you read pdf files. Freeware.
Games:
Bejeweled from Astraware - highly addictive, don't say I didn't warn you. Shareware - $9.95. This is the palm version of DiamondMine from Popcap games.
Bubblet from oopdreams software. Shareware - $12.
Puzzle apparently from Palm ?. Remember those little plastic square games where you had to slide the bits inside to get the numbers from 1-15 in order? Now you can do it on your palm. I think it was freeware.
MineHunt
PalmJongg
SlitherLink
Lines by Dmitri Kornilov. Freeware.
Enhanced main apps:
DateBk4 from Pimlico. Shareware - $24.95. A heavy (more than 400k) application, I probably don't use half of the numerous options in it. Nice in that it integrates all the other main apps, and lets you link between them.
Address+ by Paul Taylor. Shareware - $12.
PhoneMate from Mobimate. Shareware - $19.95. One hand phone lookup - I hear the newer palm operating systems have something similar built in. Excellent program, dunno how I lived without it before :). They have a hebrew-english version too (they're an Israeli company).
ToDo Plus from Hands High Software. Shareware - $19.95. The main thing I like about this is the option of setting alarms on a todo item.
Memo Plus from Hands High Software. Shareware - $19.95. Again, I love being able to set an alarm on a memo. You can also attach drawings and stuff.
Miscellaneous:
Account Manager (now called MobileSafe Account Manager) from Handmark. Includes a desktop companion. This is where I keep all my passwords, pin #s, logins, etc.
Album To Go from Club Photo. Freeware. Carry photos on your palm. Much better if you have a colour device (oh, for a Prism...).
ATool! by Martin Wilber. Freeware. I use this mainly for tracking my battery usage.
BackupBuddy from Blue Nomad - INDISPENSABLE - brings your palm back to exactly the way it was before  a crash / hard reset. Without it, you just get the data back, but not all the 3rd party software and preferences you had on. Many people buy this after experiencing a hard reset. I think you should get it before :). Shareware - $29.95 and worth every penny.
Birthdate from Fahl Software. Shareware - $19.95. Scours your address book for birthday info (which you first have to input there as a custom field or a note) and gives you a list. Can also do wedding anniversaries. The best part is the option of incorporating the list in your datebook.
dbScan from Pimlico. Freeware. Checks and fixes datebook databases.
DayNotez from Natara. I use this for my journal. (Commercial, $14.95). There are seperate desktop and Outlook versions ($24.95 each, price includes the palm application).
DB Explorer by Katsuhiro Endo. Shareware - $10.  A long 'click' on a programs name gives you quick info about it  and access to delete/beam/categorize. Amazingly useful.
Dictionary from Evolutionary Systems
FAFileMover from Kopsis - this is the software needed to operate the compact flash adapter. Is getting better and better. Right now they have a beta which gives VFS support meaning you can read/launch programs FROM the CF card, like the M50x series - I haven't d/led it yet, waiting for the kinks and creaks to be sorted out. Commercial - $12 from palmgear, $10 from Kopsis.
FemDays from LinkeSOFT GmbH. For keeping track of my menstrual cycle. Shareware - $19.
HanDBase from DDH Software - excellent database program, with desktop companion. I use this for my client database, very useful on houscalls. Shareware, $30 with desktop companion, $25 without.
HandWrite
Hebrew+ from Penticon - hebrew support for Palm OS. Shareware - $65.
Handy Shopper by Christopher Antos. Still trying to figure this one out. Freeware. Databases and stuff for the program can be found on the program's mailing list.
JBBackup (formerly JackBack) from Brayder Technologies Inc. Back ups my visor onto the compact flash card. Commercial - $7.95 till Dec 31 2001.
JFile
Keyboard from Think Outside - the driver for my Stowaway keyboard. The keyboard usually comes with an old version, the newest version is on their site, at no extra charge.
Mirror+by James Niemasik. Turns the visor into a mirror. Turns out there are quite a few mirror programs out there. Freeware.
Parens by Rick Huebner. Calculator + convertor. Shareware $11.95.
SoftTrack! from Palmgear (didn't know they developed software) - automatically tracks what software you have installed, version, date, registration codes etc. Freeware.
URLs
Watch-Ya!
Word Comp
WordSmith from Blue Nomad (makers of BackupBuddy)  - A good word processor, especially good if you have a keyboard. Also a Doc reader. HOWEVER, does not work well with hebrew :(.
WPM
YAUC
Hacks
X-Master as hack manager. Freeware.
Crash from dseifert software production. This program resets for you when needed instead of you having to click the 'reset' button that often doesn't work and instead of using the reset pin. Since Datebk4 tends to crash a lot on me, this program, together with the program that automatically clicks 'reactivate previously active hacks' after a soft reset,  is a godsend. Also good for people who use a case that limits access to the reset button. Freeware.
Global Find
HebKeys by R. Perry - get hebrew on your PPK / Stowaway keyboard. Freeware.

MiddleCapsHack

SilenceHack from Foursquare Development - silence your palm when needed (can set specific times ahead). Shareware - $5.

Cases, Styli, etc.
Handspring Visor Stylus Rainbow Pack - got these just for the blue pen to match my visor.
PDA Panache Custom Visor Stylus (Chrome) - Nice stylus, but I can't part with my simple blue one so this one just stays at home.
iStylus Duo from Stylus Central - cheap ($5) yet comfortable duo pen (pen/stylus combo). I got one in red and one in blue. They ship to Israel. My graffiti improves when I use this.
The Everwhere Styli - at 49 cents a piece, I got like 20 of these to keep around and give as presents. From Stylus Central. Nothing too fancy, just plain plastic. The blue and orange ones are transparent so nicer than the white and green ones.
Blue vulcanized rubber case from Incipio Direct. Zips around, uses visor's lid to attach = no velcro. Osnat has the giraffe one and they come in other animal prints too. She has a IIIc so got the Pocket PC case. They ship to Israel.
Palm III Leather Belt Clip Case - I don't use the belt clip, but like this case a lot. The leather is soft and supple and the fit is good, especially without the visor lid on, but even with it it fits.
ThePouch case for stowaway and visor together - made of neoprene and nylon, sort of bulky but does the job. Will ship to Israel, great customer service.
Blue and clear flipcovers from Flipcover.com - a cover like the one that came with the visor, only this one hinges on the top and inserts into the module pocket. Which means you don't have to find a place to put the lid when you're using the visor. Amazingly useful. However, not compatible, at the moment, with oversized modules. (There's an adapter for flush modules). I use this now instead of a case. Will ship to Israel - free shipping worldwide! The hinges tend to break though - I would get a couple at a time.
Blue, clear and purple flip clip and flip lids from Tactilis. Got these before I bought the flipcovers. These covers do not close firmly, mostly because they are palm III covers. Tactilis have been promising for ages to make special visor covers. Still waiting. On the plus side- may be used with any sized module.
Truetip finger styli - a thimble type thing that goes on your index finger, turning it into a stylus. Surprisingly comfortable. Will ship to Israel.
